Challenge
The security and surveillance operator WS Insight in Nairobi provides surveillance services for enterprise and government clients in East Africa.
Their clients have requested surveillance in areas that are not properly served with grid power. Insight decided to develop their own solar power solution for video cameras and microwave radios with off-the-shelf components, but it ended up being costly and non-scalable.

Solution
WS Insight turned to Optace Networks, a Kenyan distributor of the Fuzion Power Technologies FTP-300, leveraging reliable solar power and network capabilities via Power over Ethernet in one smart, rugged and quickly deployable product.
The FTP-300 powers the video camera used for surveillance and the microwave radio that provides access to the internet. The solution allows Insight Secure to deploy video surveillance with microwave middle-mile connectivity anywhere the sun is shining. Very little planning is required.
Optace Networks also assisted WS Insight in designing the microwave network that connects individual video camera feeds to the central control center. Optace Networks designed a radio solution focusing on the Cambium Networks range of Force microwave radios.

Solar-Powered Network Connectivity for Video Surveillance
In this solution the video camera is connected to the FTP-300 via one of the two Ethernet ports for data and 48 V power. The Cambium Force 200-25 is connected on the second Ethernet port for data and 24 V power. Connectivity between the video camera and CPE is via the FTP-300. The solution doesn’t require separate PoE injectors and there is a minimum of cabling required.
